Adhesive Tape Technology
Industry Use of Industrial Adhesive Tapes
Industrial adhesive tapes are increasingly being used as a replacement for traditional fastening methods such as welding and mechanical fasteners. This increase is due to the fact that products in many industries are becoming smaller, so removing mechanical fasteners such as screws that can be large and bulky helps reduce weight, size and the need for expensive equipment whilst also eliminating structural weak points created by drilling or punching holes. Industrial adhesive tapes are also becoming preferred over welding as it is a safer and simpler process of attaching two pieces of material.
This blog post will outline a selection of the sectors that use industrial adhesive tapes and the benefits they provide.
Automotive
The automotive sector has benefitted from industrial adhesive tapes in a large way as they provide many solutions for the issues the industry faces.
Industrial adhesive tapes are used for the attachment of internal and exterior components. The attachment of wing mirrors, seals to reduce NVH, and even the cars badges can be improved using industrial adhesive tapes, as they are a simple and effective method of attachment.
Industrial adhesive tape technology is also used for the structural bonding of multi-material vehicle platforms, such as high-strength steel, aluminium, magnesium and composites.
During the manufacturing and delivery process, automotive vehicles require a high level of protection against scratches, scuffs, and other damage that can occur. Industrial adhesive protection films are used to protect automotive vehicles from this type of damage throughout the entire process.
Renewable Energy
In the renewable energy sector, efficiency and keeping costs low are important to keep the production of energy sustainable. Industrial adhesive tapes are being employed for this reason, as they are very versatile but often provide a simple solution.
Industrial adhesive tapes are used to bond serrations and gurney flaps to blades as they provide consistent performance throughout all environmental conditions.
As wind turbines are subjected to some of the harshest environments, industrial adhesive protection films can provide a high level of protection to ensure that they have a longer lifespan and reduce the need for maintenance.
Electronics
With the increasing demand for minimisation of electronics, including wearables and touchscreen devices, industrial adhesive tapes have become increasingly important in helping to reduce size and provide protection from damage.
For bonding electronic components, such as decorative decals, panels or screens, industrial adhesive tapes use both pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) and thermally activated films (TAF) to provide the highest adhesion levels using the thinnest adhesive layers.
Industrial adhesive tape protection film with anti-finger print and anti-refection properties are used for a wide range of electronics including handheld devices, touch screen kiosks and ATM’s.
