Tecman Speciality Materials Ltd was founded in 1994 to supply the signs and graphics industry with performance tape.
Starting out as three staff members with slitting equipment and a flatbed press has grown into a thriving SME, employing over 30 members of staff with an extensive conversion facility supporting industries across the globe.
Tecman was established to supply performance tape to the signs and graphics industry.
The first rotary press was installed, which signified the initial step of Tecman becoming an advanced material converter.
The second rotary press was installed along with Tecman gaining ISO9001 accreditation. Following this we received the coveted Top 10 Supplier Status from Siemens.
Investment in further rotary presses and a new slit/rewinding facility paved the way to Tecman becoming the leading converter of advanced materials that we are today.
As part of a 5-year expansion plan, we strategically relocated to our current larger premises in Leamington Spa, within the heart of the West Midlands manufacturing hub and were awarded our first automotive contract. This expansion was quickly followed by a rebrand of the company.
Tecman was awarded our first Innovate UK R&D grant supporting the development of DAAT® Technology, a ground-breaking structural adhesive tape.
We received our second Innovate UK R&D grant for the continued development of DAAT® Technology.
We increased investment in our manufacturing facility with further rotary presses and a 100-tonne automated beam press. Additionally, we launched Alfa® Technology, an innovative new range of acoustic insulation materials for automotive NVH.
This year was our most challenging yet transformational year to date. In response to the pandemic’s PPE shortage, we pivoted manufacturing to supply high-performance, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly face shields to healthcare organisations across the UK, Scandinavia, Europe, and the USA.
We partnered with a network of medical distributors and our flagship face shield was listed on NHS supply chain, and were soon awarded our first £1 million contract.
To meet demand, we installed one of Europe's largest servo-controlled rotary presses featuring in-line ultrasonic welding capability.
Finally, we received a third Innovate UK R&D grant for the continued development of DAAT® Technology. We also achieved our first OEM approval for surface protection film specifically designed for piano black paint.
Investing in our growth, we expanded into a neighboring unit to increase facility space by 50% and installed our first fully automated slit/rewind line.
Following in-depth consultations with healthcare professionals we launched Optec® Reusable Face Shield System.
2021 also marked our entry into the thermal barrier space in EV manufacturing, as we introduced advanced insulation materials into our thermal management product portfolio.
As part of our new 5-year growth plan we applied for automotive quality management system IATF 16949 certification and kicked off our modernisation programme to replace and upgrade conversion equipment every 10 years.
We filed the patent for an all-in-one manufacturing process for Framed ATP Pads and launched the product at Battery Cells & Systems Expo during a live event presentation.
2024 was a significant year as Tecman celebrated it's 30th anniversary. The announcements started quickly with achievement of IATF 16949:2016 certification, in January, the most widely recognised international standard for automotive quality management systems.
Later in the year we made our largest investment yet in a new fully-automated machine with self-adjusting capability and full digital controls, capable of running over 50 metres of material per minute.
Additionally, we began rolling out our newly formed business divisions focused on specific expertise to align with our customers priorities; Tecman Innovation, Tecman Manufacturing, and Tecman Automation.
A year of forging new partnerships and strengthening key relationships, highlighted by securing a five-year contract within the healthcare industry, which included upgrades to our clean manufacturing facilities.
In February, Tecman showcased our industry-leading thermal management solutions in a Government Automotive Technology Trade Mission to the Bosch facility in Stuttgart.
Towards the end of the year plans were approved for a series of projects and investment to improve our operations and service levels.
Finally, we were delighted to launch a new employee bonus scheme, ensuring that Tecman’s continued success is shared with the people who make it possible.
