About the Customer:
A leading UK signage manufacturer, providing professional solutions from initial consultation, through to design, planning and the final installation. With over 30 years of industry knowledge and experience behind them, they have built an impressive high profile client base, including global blue chip corporations and high street retailers.
The Challenge:
To supply a solution that will secure 3 metre tall built up acrylic letters to a glass building frontage for the launch of a well-known high street retailer's new store.
After the initial consultation there were a number of application challenges that needed to be taken into consideration. Firstly, it needed to be completely invisible, so traditional mechanical fixing methods were not an option. The bonding method needed a combination of strong initial bond and proven long term performance to sustain the 3 metre tall lettering.
The adhesive needed to be UV and all weather resistant, plus have the ability to cope with expansion and contraction. Finally, they required immediate delivery as they were operating under tight deadlines.
The Solution:
Due to the challenging conditions of the application, Tecman's Application Engineers were consulted. They developed a bonding solution that utilised two of Tecman's Vhpb products from the Bond44 adhesive tape range. The 1mm and 2mm clear Vhpb products have proven class leading bonding performance, not only from initial bond but also through long term ageing. Comprehensive technical information was supplied to the structural engineers which satisfied their requirements.
Due to Tecman's extensive stock holding and fast delivery times, the adhesive tape was available immediately and delivered within the tight deadline specified by the client.
The Outcome:
The bonding solution developed by Tecman proved to withstand the harsh, diverse weather and UV elements endured by outdoor signage and provided the balance between a strong initial bond and the long term adhesion required for this type of application.
Needless to say the project was a complete success. The bonding method was invisible to the eye, enhancing the signage and pleasing both the signage manufacturer and the high street retailer.
